“Haley was a great teacher who really helped me learn not just how to play the violin better but also how to practice and approach pieces so that I could continue to improve on my own. In addition to teaching well, Haley is very kind and generous, so I enjoyed working with her.”

— Logan P., student

Haley is an excellent teacher, tailoring her lesson plans to the needs and learning styles of each student. She is kind, patient, and adaptive, working hard to ensure that her students are able to achieve their playing goals. She is dedicated to guiding both beginners and advanced students alike.

-Rebecca M., parent

“I wanted to tell you how happy Maysa was yesterday after her zoom class with you. She truly enjoys your lessons and you have a talent for teaching/mentoring kids!”

— Zena A., parent

“We are so fortunate to have had Haley as our son’s first violin teacher. She’s nurtured joy for making music - communicating enthusiasm and precise coaching that have helped him to grow his skills every week. Our son now prefers the classical radio station and reads books about theory in his free time. Thanks to Haley, our son is developing a lifelong passion for the instrument.”

-Scott M., parent

My Teaching Philosophy

Without encouragement to try new, creative things and without the assurance of trust in case of failure, people cannot grow. I believe that music is just the place for those risks.

Musical ability is not an inborn talent but an ability which can be developed. Any child who is properly trained can develop musical ability, just as all children develop the ability to speak their mother tongue. The potential of every child is unlimited.
— Dr. Shinichi Suzuki

I began teaching in high school and received certification to teach Suzuki Method Book 1 in 2014. I have been teaching in the Boston area since 2015. My students' ages range from 4 - 18 years old, as well as adult students. Several of my students have played with competitive youth orchestras, including the Rivers Youth Orchestras (Weston, MA) and NEC Prep (Boston, MA). Several students have also been members of the Medfield High School Chamber Orchestra, which I conducted from 2018-2020.

Since moving to Canada in 2020, I have developed a small studio in Vancouver, BC, where I teach from my home or occasionally from students’ homes. I also teach at Simusiue Studio, in Coquitlam, BC.

In their lessons, students will learn the basics of violin and viola playing and note-reading, as well as how to develop accurate intonation and beautiful tone. More advanced students will learn basic music theory and music history to enhance their understanding of the music they are playing.

Music creates analytical thinkers and sensitive people. It is my goal to instill in every child whom I teach a deep enjoyment of music, even if they do not pursue a career in music. Art, music, and the humanities are essential to creating a world we actually want to live in. Interest in these subjects outside of our chosen career paths help us lead happier, more balanced and fulfilling lives.
